Programmes

General
The format is one that will be familiar to you from other residential schools. The morning classes will be graded and are taught by a mixture of overseas and local teachers with each class usually having two teachers during the week. We aim to have live music for these classes. The afternoons will have a variety of optional activities usually centred around dance or music although there will be interesting variations. Most of the evening functions will be dancing socials but one or two nights will have a more restful focus – a quiz night or a formal dinner for example. The evenings will finish with a supper which is the end of the official day. Thereafter, everyone’s free to do what they want – go to bed and recover from the day, or join one of the “after parties” that often go on into the wee small hours.

Class Venues
All classes will be held at halls within the local area, all of which have wooden floors. These include the Tomaree High School and Public School, both at Salamander Bay; the Shoal Bay Public School at Shoal Bay; and the Soldiers Point Hall at Soldiers Point. The distance to classes varies from 2.5km (as the crow flies) to 10.5km. While 2.5km doesn’t sound far, the actual walking distance is longer than this, so transport will be organised to take dancers between venues.

Day Out
Wednesday 13th July has been planned as a full day excursion to the Hunter Valley Gardens and Wineries. We will be driven by Port Stephens Coaches - http://www.pscoaches.com.au - who have a long experience with these excursions. Lunch is not included in the cost, but is available at many of the places we will be visiting.

For anyone not wishing to go on the excursion, there will be optional SCD classes, depending on numbers. Lunch will not be available at the School that day. However, there are lots of good places to eat at around Nelson Bay.

For those who would like to make their own arrangements for the day, there are many interesting places to visit around Nelson Bay. Information, pamphlets and transport timetables will be available at the Reception at the Landmark Resort.

Other Activities
If you still have any energy in the afternoons, or are staying on after the School, the Landmark is located near the picturesque 27-hole Nelson Bay Golf Course and Bowling and Recreation Club. The Tennis Club and Tomaree National Park are on your doorstep, so there are many activities at your fingertips. The tour desk at the Landmark can arrange tours and advise you on the best activities to suit your interests.

Interested in a hit of golf on one of the best NSW courses?

If you are a keen golfer, no visit to Nelson Bay is complete without a hit on the Dutchman’s Bay Golf Course, located right next to The Landmark Resort. Golf in Nelson Bay offers the best of everything- a great location and great weather conditions year round… better yet, when the course is located right next to your accommodation it couldn’t be more convenient! Rivalling all other courses in NSW, this golf course offers a great challenge and is an interesting course for all abilities.
